Dr Anil Deshmukh

Dr Anil Deshmukh is an affable, seasoned Respiratory Specialist with a strong commitment to excellent patient-centred care, medical education, and clinical leadership. He obtained his Bachelor of Science (BSc (Hons)) as well as Medical Degrees (MB ChB) in 2002 from The University of Leicester (United Kingdom). In 2003 he relocated to Queensland and attained all his subsequent training here in Australia.
Dr Deshmukh completed his Advanced Training in Respiratory Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney NSW; predominantly working in the fields of Lung Transplantation, as well as Sleep Medicine. He was appointed as Fellow with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2017. Following this, he returned to Queensland to further his knowledge in the areas of Lung Transplantion and Pulmonary Hypertension as Fellow at The Prince Charles Hospital under the tutelage of Dr Andreas Fiene.
Through his public work at Caboolture Hospital, Dr Deshmukh has developed a keen interest in the areas of Lung Cancer, COPD, Chronic Cough, and ILD and was nominated for the ‘CKW Network High Performance Award 2024’.
As a result of his work with a wide range of Advanced Respiratory Disorders & Transplantation; Dr Deshmukh has developed extensive procedural skills appropriate for his work including:Â
- Diagnostic fibre optic bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage
- Transbronchial lung biopsy
- Brush cytology and endobronchial biopsies
- Linear probe endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)
- Diagnostic thoracic ultrasonography
- Thoracocentesis
- Ultrasound-guided intercostal catheter (ICC) insertion
- Medical pleurodesis and intrapleural lysis therapy
He is also proficient in the setup and management of High-Flow Oxygen Therapy (HFNP), APAP, CPAP, and NIV for sleep and respiratory care.

Since 2005 he has been actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate Medical Education and was Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland (2008–2014). He has continued his role in the academic development of medical students by delivering bedside clinical teaching, lectures, as well as acting as a Local Examiner for the University of Queensland at Caboolture Public Hospital. His passion for education continues through mentorship and training at both college and hospital levels. Additionally, Dr Deshmukh acts as a Local Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians FRACP Clinical Examinations annually.Â
